WASH Coordinator

Support to Life: Internationally renowned humanitarian aid organization founded with the principal objective of ensuring access to basic rights and needs for individuals and communities affected by natural or human-made disasters. Founded in 2005 by 5 women academics and humanitarian aid workers, STL carries out activities in Emergency Response, Refugee Support, Child Protection and Capacity Building in Civil Society, to improve the living conditions of people affected by natural or human-made disasters in Turkey.

STL supports access to basic rights and essential needs; aims to eliminate the risks for children living under dire conditions giving priority to seasonal agricultural workers; provides immediate aid services at times of disasters. STL works with the support of a headquarter based in Kadıköy/Istanbul and with field offices located in 12 provinces in Turkey (Adana, Adıyaman, Ankara, Batman, Diyarbakır, Hatay, İstanbul, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Mardin, Mersin, Şanlıurfa) as well as mobile teams.

Hayata Destek is looking for a WASH Coordinator to join Emergency Response Team. The position will be based in Hatay with frequent travel to Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş. Duration of this assignment is 3 months, with possibility of extension.

The WASH Coordinator’s role is to lead and provide technical support for planning and smooth operation of WASH interventions in earthquake affected provinces. In addition, WASH Coordinator will support the capacity of STL teams, undertake technical supervision of field teams and will play key role in coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Overall Management and Technical Supervision

• Oversee, plan and coordinate all the WASH intervention across Earthquake Emergency Response operation of STL (currently in Hatay, Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş)
• Ensure the integration of WASH with all other sectors for a holistic humanitarian response
• Develop/adapt technical designs of water and sanitation units, and develop/adapt awareness raising contents, messages and campaigns related to hygiene promotion
• In close coordination with Area Coordinators, undertake the technical supervision of WASH teams
• Enhance the technical capacity of STL teams by providing orientations, trainings, guidance and on job training

Assessment, Project Development, Monitoring and Evaluation

• Develop and disseminate all relevant assessment, monitoring and evaluation tools
• Design and facilitate WASH assessments and evaluations at field level
• Design new WASH interventions for the earthquake affected population ensuring the participation of affected population at different levels
• Support project development team to prepare concept notes and proposals providing inputs about activity design, SWOT analysis and risk assessments,
• Supporting M&E and WASH teams for the monitoring and evaluation of the WASH projects
• Ensure Accountability to Affected Population by working closely with STL Community Feedback and Complaint Mechanism

Representation and Coordination 

• Represent STL to sectoral working groups, donors, other WASH partners, national and local authorities and all other relevant actors.
• Coordinate with all the relevant WASH sector’s partners and water authorities for needs identification, alignment and collaboration
• Ensure timely information flow and coordination with WASH cluster and relevant working groups

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Master’s Degree and/or technical certification in related field is desired
• Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience
• Minimum 2 years of applicable experience in developing and management of WASH projects, preferably in humanitarian and/or development field with NGOs
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Turkish
• Team-building skills, able to effectively mobilize, monitor and motivate staff
• Excellent management and effective communication skills
• Positive, team-oriented attitude
• Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks under pressure
